From the Almanac

The term Printing defines the art, process, or business of producing printed material by means of inked type and a printing press or by similar means.

Fonts used to be named after people who created them.

Printing gear makes up about 30% of the world’s market for computer peripherals. In particular, inkjet printers make up over 5% of the total computer peripherals market.

3D printing is on the rise: in 2020, the market value amounted to $13.8 billion – and this trend is expected to grow. More than 2 million 3D printers were shipped worldwide that year.

Johannes Gutenberg died a poor man. He was sued by his wealthy business partners in 1455 and lost the lawsuit, which resulted in the iconic printer being forced to give up his printing business and, ultimately, into financial ruin, before his death in 1468.

Gutenberg printed more than 150 copies of the Bible, but the whereabouts of only 49 are known today.

While printing was initially started in the early 1400s the digital version was not used until 1993 when Indigo launched the E-Print 1000 and started the printing revolution towards the digital process.

The market is further expected to grow in the forecast period of 2023-2028.

It is supposed to reach 800 billion USD by 2026.

The commercial printing market is majorly driven by the retail, financial services, publishing, and food and beverage industries.
